The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the Universal Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and meet the needs of others in His name without discrimination.
HISTORY OF THE SALVATION ARMY
When William and Catherine Booth began the work in London that would become Salvation Army, few could have predicted their legacy: an organization, part of the Christian Church, now working in more than 134 countries and with a history of more than 150 years. During that time, there have been millions of members, and many people have been helped around the world - but the movement had humble beginnings.
SALVATION ARMY IN INDONESIA
The Salvation Army in Indonesia was started by two Dutch officers, Staff Captain Jacob Gerrit Brouwer and Ensign Adolf van Emmerik. Both sailed from Amsterdam on the fire ship Soerabaja and arrived in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta on November 24, 1894. This historic date was confirmed as the start of the Salvation Army mission in Indonesia. In the village of Sapuran, Central Java, the two officers began a simple ministry, teaching farming, reading and environmental hygiene to the local population. With perseverance and love in line with the Salvation Army mission, the simple ministry continued to grow and expand. Today, Bala Keselamatan serves the people of Indonesia from the western tip of Nias Island to the eastern tip of Papua through social welfare services, education, health, and Christian spiritual development.

The Salvation Army's Global Strategic Framework
COMPASS is the Global Strategic Framework for the Salvation Army's mission in 134 countries by 2025 that has been presented by the global leader of the Salvation Army, General Lyndon Buckingham. “We want a whole renewed Salvation Army, made up of people who have been empowered, equipped, to share the love of Christ and the power of God transforming local communities around the world”, said Gen. Buckingham. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

With Compass, we’re dedicated to leaving a God-honouring legacy by adopting three areas of focus:
EMPOWERING PEOPLE
People are at the heart of our mission. We want to ensure our people understand our mission and how they can participate in making it happen more effectively.
ENHANCING MISSION IMPACT
God has given us this mission – to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in his name without discrimination. By knowing and understanding God’s mission, we can trust he will guide us through an ever-changing future.
ESTABLISHING AN ENDURING LEGACY
We will strive to pass on a healthy, flourishing Salvation Army to future generations by being excellent stewards of all that is entrusted to our care.
